LexBlog is about more than making blogs for lawyers. It has been for a few years now. We want to build the world’s largest legal blogging community—an unrivaled body of secondary law.

In my time at LexBlog, I’ve been part of that—scouring the web and filling doc after doc with blogs from every corner of the globe. Now it’s time to go and get them.

Enter Dorothy Coletta, LexBlog’s new director of development.

Dorothy has been working within and growing communities for as long as she can remember. She grew up in Chicago, where her family owned their own business.

“When I first met Greg [Storey], he mentioned how he’s been building community since he was little with a derby car race. I feel the same way, I grew up in a family owned business,” she said. “Our clients were our community. I started a summer camp when I was 10, started working for my dad when I was 13. I’ve always been part of building a community. It’s an interesting role I’ve always filled.”

Over time, Dorothy found that these sorts of skills carried over easily into her adult life. Her impressive work history has always included talking to and connecting with others, from retail customers to corporate clients. A self-described people person, Dorothy uses any time not spent working to volunteer—helping international and local communities alike and even working her way up to the board of a few nonprofits.

“I led the charge on fundraising efforts for organizations such as the Junior League and Boys and Girls Club,” she said. “I’ve been serving on nonprofit boards for about 16 years now.”

Two and a half years ago, after living in Chicago, New York and Chicago again, Dorothy decided to move to Seattle to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and grand-dog. Now that she’s landed at LexBlog, she’s excited for LexBlog’s environment and the opportunity to connect with new people.

“I’ve worked with a small company before and I know that they really know how to get things done, so I’m glad to be back in that kind of setting.” Reflecting on the less familiar things to come, Dorothy said that, “I’ve personally done sales and marketing a lot, so I’m excited to do something a little different, especially because it’s giving me the ability to branch out with the current network I’ve built and create a brand new network too. And of course, I can’t wait to meet new people.”

And we’re excited to have her. Her past experience certainly gives her a level of expertise in growing communities, as does her love for other people.

“It sounds crazy, but I really love to do the same sort of thing that I do for my job. I love meeting new people, networking and keeping in touch with those I’ve served with on different boards.”

Dorothy’s affinity for others helps her bring positive change everywhere she goes, and we can’t wait to see the amazing impact she’s going to make here at LexBlog.

“I’m honored and excited to be leading the effort to grow LexBlog’s blogging community. It’s a mighty task, but an important one for everyone to have access to the law.”
